Hello. I am Luna Helen Lovegood. I've been going to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for 5 years now. I'm fifteen. Since I am smart, the Sorting Hat placed me in Ravenclaw.
I don't really have any friends, but in the end of this year I got to have a good relationship with some really nice gryffindors. People call me "Loony" Lovegood because they think I'm a bit strange. They like to steal and hide my things. The name "Luna" means "moon." It's nothing to do with "loony", but I suppose it's unfortunate that my name is so similar to it. I like being called Luna, though. This is as if I am the child of the moon.
In real life, my daddy is the editor of the magazine The Quibbler. I get very offended when people call it rubbish. Daddy doesn't care how much money he makes, he just wants to let the public hear important stories they need to know. According to him, 'the Daily Prophet' is a terrible paper. I agree; it's completely biased and untrue (so unlike Dad's magazine).
I live in England. The only other wizarding families in that area are the Weasleys, the Diggorys, and the Fawcetts. However, we don't really associate much with other wizards.
My mum died five years ago. She was an extraordinary witch who worked in the Committee on Experimental Charms and liked experimenting a bit too much. One day when I was nine years old, one of her experiments went wrong. It was terrible and it makes me feel quite sad sometimes. Luckily, I still have daddy. It isn't as though I'll never see or talk to her again though - she's only on the other side of the veil.
Because of Mum's death, I've been able to see the thestrals pulling the Hogwarts carriages ever since my first day of school. This year, Harry Potter was very surprised and confused to see them, especially when his friend Ron Weasley couldn't. It's only people who've seen death who can see them. And though Harry saw Cedric Diggory die, Ron was lucky enough to not have ever seen death.
Speaking of Ron, isn't he simply the King? I love that song, "Weasley Is Our King"
Ron's sister, Ginny, is in my year at school. She's quite nice to me, not teasing me or hiding my things or anything, but she does giggle about me when she thinks I'm not looking. People often don't realize I'm watching when I am. Two years ago, Ron took Padma Patil to the Yule Ball but he didn't dance with her. When I commented on this on the train to Hogwarts, she started giggling like mad. She thought I didn't notice but I did. Why should she giggle? If only Ron had asked me... I wouldn't have minded not dancing...
